Need electric work done?
Make sure you (or your electrician) contacts us!
Remember: Your meter’s technology reports any outage nearly immediately to communication equipment at the co-op office, and we pride ourselves on prompt response time.
As spring closes in on us and you start planning those home improvement projects, be sure that not only YOU stay away from your electric meter but also your electrician understands your co-op’s policy. The following is taken directly from SCEC Policy 703:
-
Upon request the cooperative will at no-charge unseal and remove a meter and reinstall the meter to allow a member to complete electrical work on the load side of the service.
-
No person other than a qualified cooperative employee may cut or remove the cooperative’s meter seal or other locking device used to prevent unauthorized access to the cooperative’s meter or related electrical equipment.
-
No person other than a qualified cooperative employee may install or remove an electric meter.
-
If a cooperative meter seal is found to be cut, tampered with or missing from the meter socket, the member / consumer shall be required to pay a $250 fine in addition to amounts determined by applying Policy 704 Meter Tampering.
-
If a meter is removed by persons other than a cooperative employee and the removal and the resulting power fail notification results in a cooperative line crew responding to a reported outage, the member / consumer shall be assessed a $200 charge in addition to the $250 tampering fine.
Meter tampering can result in electrical shock, is illegal and can result in fines for YOU!
