Your small change can make a big difference! In 2023, St. Croix Electric Cooperative (SCEC) will combine our Commitment to Community Grant program and our Community ¢ents program.  In doing so, members will be automatically enrolled in a philanthropic program that supports local not-for-profit entities and others in need in our community. Members will be automatically enrolled in the cooperative’s new Operation Round Up program starting January 1, 2023.

Operation Round Up works by rounding up members’ bills to the nearest dollar amount each month. For example, if your energy bill is $83.75, it will automatically be rounded up to $84, with the additional 25 cents going to the Operation Round Up fund. 

“The money raised through St. Croix’s Operation Round Up program will be used to benefit individuals and community organizations within the cooperative’s service territory,” explains Brian Zelenak, SCEC CEO. “Whether it is a local non-profit looking to provide baby formula to new mothers, a senior center providing programming for our grandparents, or helping an area family stay with housing after a house fire, each member’s small monthly donations, when added together, will greatly benefit community members in need.”

Operation Round Up will be registered as a non-profit 501(c)3 so all funds will be held separately from SCEC funds. An Operation Round Up Board of Trustees will be established to review grant applications and determine where to distribute funds. All SCEC members will automatically be enrolled in Operation Round Up beginning January 1, 2023. On average, members will contribute $6 per year towards helping their community.  Members will first see an Operation Round Up contribution on their February bill for January usage. However, if you do not wish to participate in the program, you may opt-out by notifying SCEC before December 22, 2022.
