No matter what type of heating system you have in your home, Wisconsin winter temperatures can greatly affect your electric bill. As soon as members started receiving their February bills, we started receiving phone calls wondering why their bills took such a big jump. (Read more about that HERE.)
Budget Billing makes monthly payments predictable … even when the weather is not!
Fluctuations in monthly electric use create fluctuations in your monthly billing statement. Many members enjoy the convenience of St. Croix Electric Co-op’s Budget Billing program, especially if they utilize our Auto Pay Program.
The monthly payment amount for budget billing participants is based on the average electric use from the previous 12-month period. The average usage is determined and used as a base for the next 12 months. After 12 months, actual use is compared to the use that was projected. Any discrepancy between the actual and anticipated amount is factored into the monthly amount set for the next year.
Budget Billing works well for people on our automatic payment plan, for people who travel frequently or for people who need predictable monthly bills.
Apply for Budget Billing by logging in to (or registering) your account through SmartHub, our online customer portal available through the web or on your smartphone or tablet (download the SmartHub app through your App Store or Google Play). Once you are logged in, find Budget Billing under Billing & Payments on the web or Bill & Pay on mobile and click or tap Enroll – it’s that simple!
Note: This option is only available when your Total Due is $0 or less and your service has been connected for 12 consecutive months, so you will not be able to enroll automatically if you have not yet paid your current bill.
