Hopefully, you noticed the Power Cost Adjustment (PCA) credit on your September bill.
In total, SCEC credited $282,676 to our members last month. This was the full remaining amount left of the $521,133 PCA credit we carried over from 2021 to help offset increased power costs.
We were able to offset PCA charges earlier this year, and we thought we had made it through the volatile summer season when we decided to implement the refund last month, but, unfortunately, the volatility of the energy market hit hard right after that decision. Between the PCA offsets earlier this year and the recent PCA credit, we have now fully recognized the amount carried over.
Unfortunately, our wholesale power supplier (Dairyland Power Cooperative) recently charged us a significant PCA charge. This is passed through to our members on October bills.
Hopefully, the PCA charge will be mitigated by the Nuclear Waste Policy Act (NWPA) credit and Capital Credit retirements, but expect to see a PCA charge on your upcoming electric bills.
