Two of the three incumbents face challengers; ballots to be tallied at April 22 meeting
After three years of uncontested director elections, two incumbents will face challengers this year. All three of the St. Croix Electric Cooperative Director incumbents whose terms are up in 2023 are seeking re-election; with one facing a single challenger and another facing multiple challengers on the upcoming ballots.
District 3: Incumbent John Collins lives in Hudson and was first elected in 2020. Challenger Mark Dolan also lives in Hudson. District 3 includes the town of Hudson and a small southwest corner of the town of Warren.
District 6: Incumbent William Peavey lives in Woodville and was first elected in 1993. He faces three challengers this year. Candidates Daniel Cleveland and Richard Rominski both live in Woodville, and candidate Austin VanDamme lives in Baldwin. District 6 includes the towns of Baldwin, Eau Galle, Village of Baldwin, and Gilman.
District 9: Incumbent Lawrence (Larry) Hall, who lives in Hudson, is running unopposed. Larry was appointed as the District 9 interim board member at the January 2023 board meeting when George Yates retired. Pursuant to SCEC Bylaws, ballots will not be mailed for the District 9 election. Members at this year’s Annual Meeting will be asked for ratification of the election of the single candidate. District 9 includes the town of St. Joseph and a portion of Hudson.
Paper ballots for Districts 3 and 6, which will include biographies of the candidates, will be mailed the last week of March to the 1,271 members in District 3 and 957 members in District 6. The deadline for returning ballots is 4:00 p.m. on Friday, April 21 – the day before the 2023 Annual Meeting & Member Breakfast scheduled to be held at St. Croix Central High School in Hammond.
Ballots are kept sealed until the Annual Meeting when volunteer tellers, coordinated by SCEC Finance Director Jen Werden, will open and tabulate the ballots. The results will be announced during the meeting that will be called to order at 9:35 a.m.
