St. Croix Electric Cooperative (SCEC) members can support renewable energy by participating in Evergreen. The program was launched in 1998 by Dairyland Power Cooperative (DPC), who is committed to providing a balanced generation portfolio that is reliable, affordable and environmentally responsible. Evergreen is ideal for cooperative members who want to do more to preserve the environment and support renewable energy generation.
SCEC is among 24 distribution cooperatives in Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa and Illinois who are member-owners of DPC (SCEC's wholesale power provider, based in La Crosse, Wis.). As members of the distribution cooperatives (YOU) choose to participate in Evergreen, DPC commits to ensuring its portfolio will include enough renewable generation to match and exceed the number of Evergreen blocks members have signed up for. Members can participate in Evergreen for as little as $1.00/month per 100 kW block of renewable energy. Dairyland's renewable generation portfolio includes wind, solar, hydro and landfill gas-to-energy sources. Member support of Evergreen not only ensures Dairyland will continue to grow its renewable portfolio, but also signals members' desires to offset their own carbon footprint, similar to pledges made by companies, such as Google, Apple and IKEA. According to the EPA, one year of participation in the program has the same environmental benefit (CO2 reduction) as planting one-half acre of trees or not driving a car 2,400 miles.
|SCEC & Solar|
|St. Croix Electric Cooperative has hit renewable energy milestones of its own with Sunflower 1 (one of Wisconsin's first member-supported solar arrays) and Sunflower II (2.34 megawatt solar array in the Town of Warren, among 20 MW of solar generation brought online in Dairyland's system in 2016-17).|
The participation cost of Evergreen is added to your monthly billing statement, is completely voluntary and is in addition to your standard and regular charges.
