WHY WE MUST KEEP TREES AND VEGETATION AWAY FROM OVERHEAD LINES

Overhead electric lines may be broken by falling tree limbs, may be damaged by repeated momentary contact with limbs, or may grow hot from limbs rubbing against them. The result is unplanned power outages, blinking lights, a potential fire threat, and a safety threat to the general public and to co-op personnel.

Plant and tree growth also creates an easy route to the lines and equipment for children who do not understand the potential danger of the lines and for wildlife such as squirrels.

The co-op inspects every mile of electric line to make sure the growth of existing trees and shrubs is kept away from equipment. Trees and landscaping that fall too close to the lines will be trimmed or removed by a professional contractor for the cooperative. We are required by Federal law to keep our lines free of interference by trees and vegetation.

Green ground level transformer boxes must also be kept clear of vegetation and landscaping.
