STUDENT LINEWORKER SCHOLARSHIP
The electric utility industry is facing a shortage of trained journeymen lineworkers that is rapidly reaching
crisis level. Lineworkers build and maintain the mechanics of the electricity delivery system. They install
lines, set poles, work on transformers, restore power, and handle a wide variety of other tasks. The
typical lineworker enjoys working outside on mechanical tasks that can be quite physical.
St. Croix Electric Cooperative wants to encourage people to seek training as lineworkers, so has established a scholarship program. Students enrolled in the lineworker program at Chippewa Valley Technical College are eligible to apply for a yearly $500 scholarship. The scholarship is administered by the school and is granted during the second half of the training program.
