SETTING UP SERVICE TO A NEW HOME
Planning your new home is an exciting venture. Congratulations and welcome to St. Croix Electric Cooperative! We appreciate your business and encourage you to take advantage of the membership benefits available to you. Two you will want to consider when planning your new home are our energy efficient electric heat products and our free water heater program. We also offer rebates on the purchase of energy efficient appliances and have off peak energy management programs. Follow these steps in order to receive your service.
All new membership applications are subject to identity verification and credit risk assessment. Further details regarding the credit risk assessment and a possible deposit are on page one of the application form.
1. Fill out a membership application.
2. Call us at 715-796-7000 or 800-924-3407 within two weeks of submitting your application. We will talk with you about your schedule, arrange to meet with an Engineering Technician at your site, determine any additional construction costs, and arrange for temporary service if necessary. Please note that temporary service is an additional $400 + tax.
3. Pick up a permanent meter socket at our office in Hammond. Please note that it is your responsibility to arrange for the building inspector. The inspection form is included in the membership application (see step 1 above). You will receive from us a construction cost estimate and information on incentive programs.
4. Complete these site preparation steps before calling us to install your service.
Attach the meter socket to a permanent structure at the height of five feet. Please contact us when this step is complete.
Install two eight foot copper clad ground rods (minimum 1/2” diameter).
Run wire from the main circuit breaker in the electrical panel to the meter socket.
Arrange for the building inspector to inspect the electrical system. The form that needs to be completed is included in the membership application in step 1 above.
Clear the electric cable route of any obstructions.
Level the ground to grade where cable is to be installed.
5. Call us to tell us you’re ready!
