Q: Who owns St. Croix Electric Cooperative (SCEC)?
A: St. Croix Electric is a distribution cooperative. It is owned by the consumer-owners (members) within its service territory who purchase electric power from SCEC.

Q: What areas are included in SCEC’s service territory?
A: SCEC serves residents and businesses located in rural areas within St. Croix County and overlapping into neighboring Polk, Pierce, and Dunn counties.

Q: How do I become a member?
A: If you are building a new home or business on St. Croix Electric lines, or moving to an address that is currently served by St. Croix Electric, you become a consumer-owner (member) by completing an application for service and paying a $5.00 membership fee, plus an administrative fee.

Q: How is a cooperative different from other types of utilities?
A: SCEC is a non-profit, member-owned and member-driven cooperative. Policies are set by an elected, nine-member Board of Directors representing the nine districts encompassing SCEC’s service territory. Each director is also a member of the cooperative.
